The music video is a great way to
introduce silent cinema to younger generations. Just take a look at and listen to the
wonderful song by Hope Sandoval and The Warm Inventions “Let me get there”.
The video was
created by Ben Smith at XLVI, who says:
A creepy,
dreamlike music video for Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions' "Let Me
Get There", featuring Kurt Vile.
Incorporating a series of stylized clay heads and inspired by the visual
aesthetic of Maya Deren, the video is a slow and somber companion to the song.
There is a longer,
unofficial version of the song on YouTube
with just over seven minutes of the film
“At Land”, directed by Maya Deren in
1941.
At Land
(1944) is a 15-minute silent experimental film written, directed by, and
starring Maya Deren. It has a dream-like narrative in which a woman, played by
Deren, is washed up on a beach and goes on a strange journey encountering other
people and other versions of herself. Deren once said that the film is about
the struggle to maintain one's personal identity.(Wikipedia)
The whole
film is available on YouTube.
